Optima Batteries “Hard Charger” Jon Fogarty Finishes 13th

Jon Fogarty started race two today from the back of the field in 20th position.  The starting position for today’s race was determined on the fastest race lap times from race one on Saturday.  The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing team struggled with the Red Dragon’s balance throughout the weekend, but felt they made developments that should help the team going forward.  Despite starting in the back, Fogarty had a great start, passing five cars on the first lap.  He battled the #66 Viper and the #6 McLaren piloted by Austin Cindric throughout the 45-minute race. In addition to the battles on the track, Fogarty had a battle of his own going on inside the car as the brake pedal pushed to the floor mid-way through the race.  He raced until the end and crossed the finish line in 13th position.

Jon Fogarty: “Race two today…in light of where we started, not a bad result.  I’ve got to thank the GAINSCO team for all they’ve done the last week.   We definitely made some improvements from where we started, and thanks to Optima Batteries for the ‘Hard Charger’ award.  The car comes out of here clean, we learned a lot this weekend and hopefully we’ll get a little testing in between now and MoSport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) and work on getting ourselves back to the pointy end of the grid.”

Bob Stallings: “Jon got the ‘Hard Charger’ award, so at least we got something out of the race. Jon is still saying the car is loose, not quite as bad as yesterday’s race, but we obviously are not there yet.  Probably the biggest issue today was brakes.  Jon was losing his peddle, and he had to pump the brakes before every braking zone.  That costs a lot of time, but he did a good job.  We’re going to do a little more testing before the next race and see if we can figure out some more things about the car.  Onward and upward!”
