The Gurney/Fogarty duo is the longest active driver pairing in the Daytona Prototype ranks, scoring 16 career victories since debuting as teammates five races into the 2006 season. GAINSCO, Gurney and Fogarty also scored a series-leading four wins in 2009’s championship season in addition to a dominating and record-setting run to the 2007 title that saw the team capture victories in half of the year’s 14 races.  Gurney’s most recent victory came in GAINSCO’s home state of Texas at Circuit of The Americas, March 2, 2013.

2013 – GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, Daytona Prototypes. Third in driver and team championships with teammate Jon Fogarty

GAINSCO and Gurney put together in 2013 their best season since winning the 2009 Daytona Prototype driver and team championships.  Gurney and his teammates won the second race of the year in storybook fashion at Circuit of The Americas in the team’s home-state of Texas and factored into the season-long championship battle from that point on. On two occasions, including at mid-season, Gurney and the team were only two points out of the championship lead and ultimately ended the year third with 312 points. Gurney and the No. 99 team finished in the top-five in half of the year’s 12 races, including four podium results. In addition to the Texas victory, Gurney and his teammates also earned a second-place finish at Barber Motorsports Park and third-place showings at Road Atlanta and Indianapolis.

2012 – GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, Daytona Prototypes. Seventh in team championship with teammate Jon Fogarty, eighth in driver championship.

Gurney and his GAINSCO teammates endured their toughest year on record in 2012 in the debut season for the new No. 99 Corvette Daytona Prototype.  In addition to expected new car development issues, Gurney was plagued by every type of bad racing luck possible and he and Fogarty finished a career-low eighth in the final driver championship standings.  GAINSCO also failed to win a race in a season for the first time since entering fulltime competition in 2006.  Despite the poor results, Gurney frequently ran competitively on track and he joined Fogarty as one of just two pairs of teammates to earn a place in SPEED.com’s Year-End Top-10 rankings.  Season highlights included a three-race podium streak to close the season, a run that was part of five total top-three finishes in the year’s 13 races. The five podium results consisted of second-place finishes at Barber Motorsports Park, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, Montreal and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and third at Lime Rock.
